What is CoolSculpting?
Many people in Stuart, Jupiter, Vero Beach and St. Lucie are looking for ways to improve their appearance and get rid of stubborn fat areas that are difficult to remove with diet and exercise alone. Those people often consider liposuction but do not have the time to undergo surgery and a long recovery period. New technology has revolutionized fat removal. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that is FDA-cleared to remove fat around the abdomen and sides of the body.
How Does CoolSculpting Work?
First, understand that fat is stored by specific fat cells in the body. These fat cells absorb excess nutrients that the body does not need immediately and stores that energy as fat. As the cells absorb more nutrients, they grow larger, resulting in the increased appearance of fat. CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that freezes these fat cells. The fat cells are killed by freezing, and this triggers the body to remove them naturally over time.
What are the Results?
The CoolSculpting procedure is clinically proven to remove from 20% -25% of fat from the treated area with only a single treatment. Additional fat can be removed with additional treatments. CoolSculpting is not a deeply penetrating procedure, so it is most effective on fat bulges that reside just under the skin. It is not designed to treat severe cases of obesity or to remove large volumes of fat.
CoolSculpting triggers the body’s natural processes. The dead fat cells must be metabolized and then removed. This is a gradual process. Patients generally see results within two to four months as the fat cells are removed. Since CoolSculpting kills the fat cells, as opposed to just making them smaller, the fat is removed permanently.
Dr. Fasano will develop a comprehensive treatment plan with patients to determine how many treatments are needed and how long the process should take. Everyone’s body is unique, and every treatment plan is custom-made by Dr. Fasano.
What Happens During Treatment?
The patient is seated and resting comfortably for the entire process. Most patients choose to read, work on their laptop or even sleep during this one hour procedure. A device will draw the targeted fat bulge between two cooling panels. Most patients feel an intense cold sensation that will numb and dissipate within a few seconds.
What are the Recovery Times?
Recovery from CoolSculpting is much faster than with surgical procedures. Most patients are able to return to work and daily activities on the same day as their treatment. Side effects generally include temporary redness, bruising, tingling or numbing similar to leaving a cold pack on your bare skin for an extended period.
Is CoolSculpting Right for Me?
CoolSculpting is most effective on individuals who are 10 to 15 pounds overweight and have mostly minor fat bulges just under the skin. The procedure is designed to eliminate those fat bulges that are especially difficult to remove through diet and exercise, including love handles and minor excess belly fat. Dr. Fasano can provide a comprehensive consultation that will give prospective patients a complete idea of how CoolSculpting can help them. Even if CoolSculpting cannot eliminate all of a patient’s excess fat, there may be specific areas that can be effectively treated. All of these details are provided in each patient’s comprehensive and individualized treatment plan.
